Feeling Comfortable in front of the camera is the best way to achieve engagement photos that feel like your personality and you absolutely love!
Feeling comfortable during your engagement photo session is crucial to getting great photos. When you’re relaxed and at ease, your true personality and connection with your partner can shine through. If you’re feeling self-conscious or tense, it will show in the photos and they may not capture the essence of your relationship. Taking the time to feel comfortable with your photographer, doing activities you enjoy, and just having fun can help you relax and feel more natural in front of the camera, resulting in beautiful and authentic engagement photos. Obviously this isn’t the easiest to achieve, the camera in general tends to create some stress! However my goal is always to make your forget about the camera all together!
1
Wear something that you feel Beautiful in!
Your engagement photos are a great time to press past your comfort zone and wear something that you absolutely love. Bring options so you can pick out something different for a bigger variety of photos you won’t want to miss! Picking the right outfit for your engagement session is important to feeling confident and beautiful during the shoot. By choosing an outfit that makes you feel comfortable and stylish, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the experience, which will translate into better photos. Consider your location and the vibe you want for your photos, and don’t be afraid to consult with your photographer or even do a trial run to make sure you feel great in your outfit. With the right clothes and the right mindset, you can create stunning engagement photos that capture the essence of your relationship.
2
Choose a location that means something to you
Choosing a location for your engagement session that you love can make a big difference in the overall feel and quality of your photos. A location that is special to you as a couple can help you feel more relaxed and at ease, which will show in your photos. Additionally, a beautiful or unique location can add visual interest and depth to your photos, making them more dynamic and memorable. Discuss with your photographer what type of location would work best for your vision and preferences, and consider factors such as lighting, scenery, and accessibility when making your choice.
3
Make it a date day
Dedicate the whole day to spend time together. Going on a date before your engagement session can be a great way to get comfortable with your partner and feel more relaxed during the shoot. Dedicate the day to doing things you both enjoy, whether that’s going to your favorite coffee shop, taking a walk in the park, or painting a picture together. By spending quality time together and doing activities that you love, you’ll be able to connect more deeply with your partner and feel more natural in front of the camera. This can result in more authentic and beautiful engagement photos that truly capture the essence of your relationship.

A little bit of Liquid Courage to get comfy and Enjoy your time together
5
Know your Photographer!
Getting to know your photographer is a great way to feel comfortable in front of the camera!
6
Decide the Vibe
Have an idea of the vibe of photos you want beforehand, not every couple wants silly photos, maybe you want engagement photos that are classy or cinematic, go over it with your future spouse and then discuss it with your photographer to get photos that feel like you! The best way to determine your vibe, sit down and create a mood board but don’t use any photos with people in them, create the mood board to show how you want to feel during your session and when your looking at your photos!
7
Do something you love!
Don’t just take photos during your session but make it an event. Hang out at your favorite coffee shop, hike your favorite trail, or just add an activity. Consider incorporating an activity or hobby that you both love to do together. This will not only make the photos more personal and unique to your relationship, but it will also help you relax and feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Whether it’s hiking, cooking, or playing board games, doing something that you both enjoy will make the session more enjoyable and memorable. Plus, it will give your photographer the opportunity to capture candid moments of you both having fun together.
8
Don’t Just Pose
I don’t use poses during your session but rather prompts that create real movement, not stiff posing! During the engagement session, it’s important to remember that the best photos often come from candid moments rather than posed shots. Don’t worry too much about trying to look perfect or staged. Instead, focus on enjoying the moment and letting your photographer capture your natural interactions with each other. This will result in more genuine and memorable photos that truly capture the essence of your relationship.
