Congratulations on making the exciting decision to elope!
But, what’s next
Just because you have decided to elope doesn’t mean you are engaged and the first step doesn’t need to be “Get Engaged” I have had couples who don’t have a traditional engagement, they don’t announce it to friends and family, and the elopement is a surprise, yes you can absolutely do that and trust me I will keep your secret!
Whether the fam knows or not the first step IMO is to sit down with your partner and dream up what your ideal elopement looks like, because its going to be different for every couple. Dream up, if money were no option. If you could do anything, be anywhere, and celebrate with exactly the people you want to celebrate with, how do you want to feel during your elopement?
Choose Your Location
The great thing about eloping is that you can get married anywhere you want. Are you drawn to the idea of saying “I do” on a mountaintop, in a gorgeous city park, or on a beach at sunset? Do you want to elope close to home or in a more exotic location? Spend some time exploring different options and choose the spot that feels right for you.
Make Arrangements
Once you have chosen your location, it’s time to start making arrangements. If you’re eloping locally, you may only need to book a photographer or find someone to officiate your ceremony. If you’re traveling to another location, you’ll need to plan out travel arrangements, lodging, and any other logistics you’ll need to take care of to make your elopement go smoothly.
Decide Who to Invite
One of the perks of eloping is that you don’t have to worry about inviting or entertaining guests. However, you may still want to include a small group of your closest family members or friends in your special day. Talk to your partner about who you would like to invite and how you will include them. For example, you may want to have a reception or dinner after the ceremony for those who made the trip.
Get Your Paperwork in Order
No matter where you choose to elope, you will need to ensure that you have all the necessary paperwork and documentation to get married. This may include obtaining a marriage license, having your ceremony officiated by a registered officiant, and signing any legal documents required by your local government.
Plan to Celebrate
Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate in a big way! Plan to have a special dinner, book a couple’s massage, or organize another activity that feels special and celebratory.
